The Maintenance Phase (P 3) comes immediately after the VLCD phase (P2) and last for six weeks. This is when you teach your body to maintain the weight you lost during P2. You should not be losing or gaining more than 2 pounds during this phase.
This is not a weight loss phase, it is a weight maintenance phase. If you still have more pounds to lose, you should do another round of the protocol after completing the maintenance phase. Knowing your BMR, or basal metabolic rate, is the key to success on this phase.

The goal of Phase 3 of the HCG diet protocol is to reset your metabolism to a new, healthier rate. In order to ensure long-term results, this phase is very important. During the maintenance phase you should stay within 20 pounds of the weight you are when you begin this phase. It is important to monitor your weight regularly preferably at the same time and adjust accordingly.
You will experience weight fluctuations during this phase while your metabolism is being set at its new rate. If you do experience more than a 2 pound weight gain on P3 you should do a steak day. The very day you see the 2 pound gain you just skip breakfast and lunch and eat only a large steak or other lean protein with an apple or raw tomatoe, and that is it. Make sure to drink plenty of water during your steak day. If you do all of this, the weight should be gone at your next morning’s weigh-in.
Remember, don’t lose (or gain) more than 2 pounds while on the Maintenance phase, this is a sign that you are not stabilizing and raises the risk of gaining back the weight you’ve lost.
