How and Why the HCG Diet Works

The HCG diet was developed over years of research and thousands of studies. While using HCG to treat a completely unrelated problem Dr. A.T.W. Simeons discovered the effects it could have on obesity. He found that his subjects were experiencing a decrease in hunger and a change in the way the fat in their bodies was distributed. He then pursued the idea that HCG could become the cure for obesity that so many needed.

The HCG diet protocol was born.

HCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, is a chemical naturally found in pregnant women. It is produced by the placenta to allow fat stores to be released for nourishment to the fetus when there isn’t enough coming in.

Dr. Simeons found that this is a result of the HCG instructing the hypothalamus to mobilize fat stores that are normally the last to be accessed. He further determined that this same process would occur in people who weren’t pregnant when they received small amounts of the chemical.

The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that controls many of the body’s functions. One of these functions is the uses or storage of fat. Typically, any fat that is not used immediately to fuel the body is stored as what is called abnormal or surplus fat.

Normal fat and structural fat serve important functions in the body while abnormal fat has no purpose at all. Under typical circumstances normal and structural fats must be depleted in order to access the abnormal fat for fuel. With HCG, the abnormal fat is automatically release and, therefore, burned first as fuel for the body.

In addition to taking HCG you must follow a strict diet developed specifically to work with the HCG to promote rapid weight loss. As a result of the mobilized fat stores 3000 to 4000 calories will enter your bloodstream on a daily basis greatly reducing hunger.

In order to use these calories as the primary source of fuel, your additional calorie intake must be no more than 500 calories a day. Furthermore, there is a specific lists of foods allowed to make up the 500 calories.

The food portion of the diet is very restrictive because the components are meant to provide your body with the foods and nutrients it needs without adding unnecessary calories.

By following the diet exactly you can lose anywhere from 1 to 6 pounds a day.
